€280 for a Controller That Constantly Breaks – Absolutely Not Worth It!
I paid €280 for my SCUF controller for the PS5, and I can confidently say that this has been one of the worst purchases I’ve ever made.
The controller has already been sent back for repairs twice, and there always seems to be something wrong with it. To make matters even worse, I had to pay for these repairs myself because SCUF claimed they were no longer covered by their one-year warranty. This is absolutely ridiculous, especially considering that the problems appear to be caused by poor design and construction rather than normal wear and tear.
For a controller that costs €280, I expect it to last significantly longer than a year without developing serious mechanical issues.
One of the problems was that the L3 and R3 buttons somehow became linked because a connector wasn’t properly connected to the motherboard. In my opinion, this is a clear example of poor design and construction.
Now, the R2 trigger has also stopped working. I opened the controller to investigate the issue and discovered that a tiny plastic rod inside the trigger mechanism had developed a small crack. A €280 controller that stops functioning properly because of one ridiculously fragile piece of plastic. Absolutely unbelievable.
What frustrates me the most is that SCUF markets itself as a premium brand for serious gamers, with premium prices to match. However, based on my experience, the build quality and durability are nowhere near what you would expect at this price point.
And the fact that customers are expected to pay additional repair costs for what appear to be fundamental design flaws makes the whole experience even worse. A premium controller should not become a recurring expense simply because its components cannot withstand normal use.
I’ve spent far more time and money dealing with problems and repairs than I ever expected from such an expensive product.
My advice: save yourself the frustration and stay away from SCUF controllers. For €280, you should be getting exceptional quality, not a product that constantly develops new issues and requires expensive repairs.
I would absolutely never buy one again, and I strongly recommend that others think twice before wasting their money on one.
Extremely disappointing build quality, terrible long-term reliability, and unacceptable repair costs. Definitely not worth the money!
