A real letdown

The games I tried wouldn't run properly, which was a REAL letdown. Old titles are tempting, but troubleshooting each download isn't what I wanted.

Superb website with a tiny flaw :)

Superb website with tons of classic and even a bit newer PC games - and not only for PC. Most of them have been developed for Windows but with little tweaking and help of pcgamingwiki.com they work flawlessly on Linux too. Lutris is king! heh. But there is a downside. Download speeds are abysmally slow, and no, it's not my internet connection. Even with the help of download managers it's still max barely above 200KB/s. Oh, and if the particular game is for sale in any online game stores they encourage to buy it by not providing download links and providing the link to the game page in that store instead. So 4 stars only for slow downloads, otherwise the score would be over 9000 :D

not worth the risk

the download left me uneasy. i've seen a trojan warning mentioned around these files, and that was enough to make me stop rather than risk having to clean up my computer. i was hoping for a simple way back to an old game, but safety comes first.

Stopped at the warning

The download set off a virus warning, so I stopped there. I was hoping to revisit an old game, but I wasn't comfortable taking the risk.

Games barely work on this site for me.

I've downloaded and tried to play two different games on this site: Midtown Madness 2 and Clue Murder at Boddy Mansion. Neither of them are functional. Clue barely even ran because one of the files were missing and Midtown Madness 2 did ran for a while but it has the worst FPS ever and anytime I tried to mod or patch it up with Revisted or put any new cars and cities into the folder the whole game would crash due to fatal memory errors. It's such a shame because both of these games are completely forgotten about on websites like Steam or GOG and I wish I could be able to play these classic games from my childhood again on my Windows 10 system but unfortunately we'll just have to keep waiting because this ain't it chief.

Compromised Site

Many, many game titles are infected with malicious adware/trojan software call PUADIManager:Win32/OfferCore. Very very difficult to uninstall. Be warned.

My Abandonware is a retro gaming archive dedicated to preserving and making classic video games easier to discover. The website focuses on old PC and console games, including DOS, Windows, Amiga, Commodore 64, Mac and many other platforms, with titles ranging from the earliest years of home computing through later classic releases. Our goal is to act as a practical video game museum: a place where players, collectors, researchers and nostalgic fans can find information, screenshots, manuals, technical details and, when available, downloadable game files for titles that are no longer easily accessible through normal commercial channels. We try to make the site simple to use. Visitors can browse games by name, year, platform, genre, theme, publisher or developer, and many pages include instructions, comments, ratings and additional context to help users identify and run older games. Registration is not required to browse or download. Running old software can be though to do, we don't provide ready to play games, that would require limitless work - instead, we try to provide the original files and few fixes when we can.Abandonware is sometimes temporary status and availability can change when a game is re-released on stores such as GOG, Steam or other official platforms. We encourage users to buy games from official sources whenever they are available. As with any files downloaded from the internet, users should also scan files, read page notes carefully and use caution, especially with very old software or files requiring compatibility fixes. My Abandonware exists for preservation, nostalgia and access to gaming history.
