More ready for the table
Tournament prep felt less daunting after the coaching helped me think through terrain and deployment beforehand. The focus was on learning, not just chasing wins.

Looking at 51 reviews, most reviewers were very happy with the overall experience. Many praise the clear, structured lessons, which explain game concepts and the reasoning behind faction tactics in ways that beginners and experienced players can apply. Reviewers often say the courses helped them understand their armies, play with more confidence, and prepare for events. Coaches and the player community are also frequently described as helpful, approachable, and welcoming....
However, a few customers report concerns about value or delivery of commitments: one says promised fundraiser benefits were not provided and that follow-up messages went unanswered, while another felt the content was not worth its cost. One reviewer also found the competitive focus detracted from the fun of the game.

the academy gave me a friendly place to ask questions and work on my game without feeling out of my depth. the coaches are approachable, and being around other players who want to improve made the whole experience more enjoyable.
I have been apart of Vanguard Tactics for just over a year now. I was new to the game and got sucked into playing competitively, but didn't know where to get the help to get better, until I discovered Vanguard Tactics. I have joined their 10th and 11th edition academy and really enjoyed the videos and all the help you can get from their Discord. I have also been to the beginners and advanced workshops at the Las Vegas Open for the past two years. I feel like every time I attend one my game play gets better. I have also played in the first time GT and really enjoyed learning how to play and prepare for a GT in a super low stress enviorment. It is great everything that Vanguard Tactics is doing for competitive Warhammer and is the main reason I will continue to use their products and attended their events.
The faction lessons made a real difference. Instead of just listing plays, they explain the reasoning behind them, so the ideas are easier to use in different games. Clear sections and useful examples helped me feel much more confident choosing units and making decisions at the table.
When I returned to Warhammer 40K after leaving the hobby back in 3rd edition, it was initially an exercise in appealing to my inner child and reconnecting with something I had loved years ago. I never expected that less than a year later I would go from relearning the basics of 10th edition to achieving my first wins, building armies I felt genuinely confident in, and ultimately winning my first event. I started with the Intro to 10th course, moved onto the Masterclasses, and eventually joined the Academy. Throughout that journey, the value has been incredible, not just in the quality of the content, but in the people behind it. What makes Vanguard Tactics special is how engaged and approachable everyone is. The coaches are exceptionally knowledgeable, but they never make improvement feel out of reach. They create an environment where asking questions, making mistakes, and growing as a player feels encouraged rather than intimidating. One thing I did not expect was how much of the coaching translated outside of the hobby. Their focus on being a great opponent, creating positive experiences, understanding perspectives, and working towards outcomes where everyone enjoys the game, genuinely changed how I approach working with people professionally. I ended up applying a lot of that thinking in my day job, transforming how I worked with my team, eventually receiving Employee of the Year, and later moving into a significantly better role. I am not claiming a Warhammer course directly changed my career, but the mindset and methodology around collaboration, communication, and improvement absolutely transferred. I have also been lucky enough to attend their in-person events, from GTs to regular Friday gaming sessions, and they have only reinforced what makes the community so good: welcoming people, great atmosphere, and a genuine passion for helping others enjoy and improve at the hobby. For me, Vanguard Tactics has not just improved how I play Warhammer. It has had a genuinely positive impact far beyond the tabletop. If you are looking to improve, find a supportive community, and learn from people who care deeply about helping others grow, I cannot recommend them highly enough.
I joined vanguard tactics as part of the fundraiser ro support the expansion of the business. Unfortunately not all commitments where made in relation to what you would get. I have made efforts to communicate with them and was brushed off a few times. Now they are just ignoring me. It’s a shame that a business which says it’s founded to support the community would act in this way.
I've been out of the game for some time after having a child, and wanted a weekend of gaming to get back into it, but also wanted help, rather than a full tournament. I booked into the South Coast GT and watched the how-to-play and Tau guides in advance. I'd advise knowing your army and getting games under your belt to get the most out of your weekend, but that sits firmly on me. The coaching sessions in the lead-up to the tournament ensured I had a list I was confident could complete the missions and that I'd considered terrain and deployment in advance. The homework set between sessions was realistic and achievable, with a Discord server for everyone taking part, so I felt like I already knew some people I was playing with. During the tournament, the focus was on decision points, asking good questions and strategic thinking. We also got a refresher on the UKTC scenery pack and scenery rules. This was about growth and not about winning, with a focus on improving your standard of play. Everyone turned up with that attitude. Wrapping up, a company that clearly understands learning through fun and self-reflection. Steven and his team value fairness and will treat you well throughout the experience, with all feedback taken on board and considered. If you're on the fence about any of the courses, just go for it, you won't regret it.
Fine content but defintly not worth the 40 bucks.
I really liked how simple their explanation is and helped me understand a lot about my faction. It’s more about knowing your faction than telling you to do something because de meta is good.
The modules are fantastic and explain the entire thought process so you understand the "why" and not just "how". This allows you to actually apply the concept across all of your armies.
